I was at the range early on a Saturday morning — one of those rare sessions where you've got the place almost to yourself. Guy a few bays down starts warming up. Smooth, unhurried swing. Ball after ball, dead straight, effortless.
I wasn't paying close attention at first.
Then I noticed something tucked under his arms.
A small ball. Just sitting there between his forearms, staying put through his entire swing — takeaway, backswing, all the way through impact. Never moved. Never dropped.
I watched him hit maybe 15 balls. Then he pulled it out, took three practice swings without it, and went straight into his full warm-up. Same swing. Same ball flight.
I walked over between shots and asked him about it.
He laughed. "Connection drill. Been doing it since I was a junior. Every pro I know has done some version of it."
I'd never heard of it.
